Barefoot Wines – It’s an Interesting Story

We’ve all seen Barefoot Wines at one point or another, right? That signature footprint plastered on reds, whites and roses all over the place? Ever wonder how the line came to be? Yeah, me too. Here’s the scoop.

In 1965, Davis Byman was playing around with winemaking in his garage. He created Barefoot Bynam Burgunday. Founders Michael Houlihan and Bonnie Harvey claimed the brand and ran with it. They wanted to create an easy wine- easy to drink, easy to afford, and easy to pronounce! The inaugural wines to the Barefoot Cellars brand were a Cabernet Sauvignon and a Sauvignon Blanc. When it came to branding, they searched high and low for a logo until finally Bonnie just dipped her foot in ink, make her footprint, and the rest is history! Hers is the very same footprint you see on the bottles today.

Since that time, the brand has grown tremendously, to include 13 stills and 6 sparkling wines. They’ve won tons of awards- in fact, Barefoot is the most awarded wine brand in the United States! If you ask the winemakers, though, they’ll tell you that the number one mission for Barefoot Cellars is to be a brand that gives back. They work with thousands of different charities, and are always on the lookout for new ones to help out. Their passion is making the world a better place through wine, and it shows.

We carry the full line of Barefoot Wines, both online and in store, so check some out today!
