Pumpkins Pumpkins Everywhere but Not a Drop to Drink

Y’all. This pumpkin beer thing is madness! We get no fewer than five calls a day looking for this beer, or that beer. Pumpkin beer is so popular we can’t keep it on the shelves. And I hate to break to you guys, but Fall doesn’t actually begin for another two weeks. That sure doesn’t seem to be stopping anyone!

I’ve written about Pumpkin beers before. Since then, we’ve over doubled our stock. Admittedly, I’m not a huge fan. But my curiousity has gotten the best of me and I’m left shaking my head going “What, precisely, is all the fuss about?” I have a theory, and pumpkin beer lovers won’t like it, but hear me out.

Has anyone had a Shamrock Shake? You know, from those golden colored arches. It shows up every year around St. Patrick’s Day and people just go NUTS. There are drive through lines down the street, and everyone you talk to has a tint of green on their tongue. Um, guys? It’s a mint flavored ice cream shake. You can get one at any ice cream parlor year round. So why do the masses go crazy for it? One word: LIMITED. That’s right, it’s a limited time only! Only comes around once a year! Get it while you can! Consume as much as humanly possible so you live without any regrets for the other 11 months of the year!

You get my point. I can’t help but feel like the same has become true for pumpkin beers. I’m sure they’re delicious. I’m sure it tastes like Fall in a bottle (or can, or glasss.) But is it so special that it deserves the frenzy currently going on at Amity Wine and Spirit, Co? I’m not so sure. Tell you what- shoot me an email and let me know what makes YOUR favorite pumpkin beer worth all of the anticipation and hype. Make me a believer. Until then, I’ll be sipping on my Peroni with a smile on my face. You see, I can drink it in November, March, May, August…you get the idea.
